The communication discipline has long been concerned with how media affect peoples sense-making and perceptions of their local environments. Ethnically targeted media, however, rarely feature in these research efforts. This panel presents four investigations of Latino immigrants media connections in Los Angeles communities, and their negotiations of these mediated meanings across a range of contexts, including advertising health-related information, political mobilization, community belonging, and identity formation.
