Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion
According to the American Council on Education college tuitions have increased on average by 54 percent at public four-year institutions over the last decade. The single biggest cause for tuition increases has been cuts in state appropriations. Many have posed the question: What can institutions of higher education do to keep education economically accessible to a wide range of students?
Costs can be reduced in many ways and one possible answer is to address multiple learning outcomes from several disciplines in one course. Another approach is to reduce the amount of time faculty members spend with students by using technology to ensure basic competencies are still met.
This proposed panel looks at a basic public speaking course in which information literacy outcomes, as well as communication competencies, are demonstrated.
