Abstract

By examining media from the outlets of news, film, and popular music, media scholars will discuss several problems in media ownership for people of color. These include (1) the invisibility and silence of African-American women in news; (2) role of film in perpetuating negative stereotypes of African American women.; (3) the misrepresentation of African-American youth; and (4) the commodification of misogynistic messages in music.
