Eves Bayou posits the existence of a hidden realm- a lost world that humanity has suppressed in the wake of rationalism, humanism and psychoanalysis that has dominated our intellectual spheres. I believe that the work of theological scholars, while not often used in the analysis of cinema, can provide an important bridge connecting us from psychoanalysis to a more expansive theoretical framework that addresses family, gender, culture, race and identity.
