ICT use in south Lebanon: Constructing post-violence identities from above and below

Sat, November 17, 3:30 to 4:45pm, Chicago Hilton, Floor: Fourth Floor, Conference Room 4H

Abstract

Communities work via narrative, storytelling and other performances to collectively repair the symbolic “undoing” wrought by violence. Due to globalized flows of media, “testimonies” of violence are impervious neither to the structural violences created by the international capitalist order of states, nor to global media flows. This ethnographic study examines “nation” and “democracy” as strategic transnational identity practices enacted via ICTs by a local community in Lebanon and the global Lebanese diaspora.
