Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion
This panel is one in an ongoing series about the productive encounter between communication theory and Marxism. Some communication scholars have argued that we need a new non-Marxist definition of materialism. An NCA panel on materialism in 2005 put forward an enormous range of definitions without much clarity about the stakes in defining this crucial term. In response, the papers on this panel define and apply a Marxist materialism consonant with human communicative agency.
