Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion
Panelists discuss biologically-based research which further explicates the nature of communication avoidance, shyness, and communication apprehension. Specifically, research focused on prenatal exposure to hormones and the development of avoidant personality traits, electrical activity in the cortex and subcortical regions of the brain that might differentiate high and low communication apprehensives, and the validity of research appearing on therapeutic approaches to communication apprehension will be presented. Professor James C. McCroskey will provide commentary and audience feedback will be solicited.
