Abstract

This panel seeks to investigate the myriad venues through which visual communication may effect social change. Drawing from visual rhetoric, critical theory, content analysis, and pedagogical perspectives, this panel demonstrates the wide-reaching scope of opportunities for social change made available through visual communication, while simultaneously indicating the interdisciplinary reach of visual communication studies. Ranging from self-awareness to activism, the projects of visual communication are shown to possess material effects.
