Closing the Circle: Considering the Intersections of Performance, Ethnography, and Living/Dying with Cancer

Abstract

Ethnographic performances have been utilized to help researchers gain a deeper appreciation of self and other. This panel will begin with a showing of the play “We All Have Cancer”, a verbatim script based on fieldwork with a cancer support group. Following the show, panelists with expertise in performance, ethnography, and death/dying will respond to issues raised by the performance. Members of Chicago cancer support groups will be invited to attend the panel.
