Theoretical, Practical, and Ethical Implications of Online Social Networking: Fleshing Out the Interface of Mass and Interpersonal Communication in Online Settings

Sat, November 17, 9:30 to 10:45am, Chicago Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Boulevard B

Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion

Abstract

Inspired by the 2007 convention’s focus on worldviews and ethics, and the growth in the phenomenon of online social networking, this panel explores theoretical, practical, and unique ethical implications of the interface of mass and interpersonal communication in settings that emerge in newer mediated environments. Our presentations will focus on the user-driven nature of such mediated communication as users share, shape, and contribute to worldviews of their online cohorts.
