Black Women Activists Building Body Politics

Abstract

Shirley Chisholm, Angela Davis and Lenora Fulani are three central yet distinct figures in the Civil Rights’ struggle whose intellectual and political contributions are taken up by this panel. Illustrating the rhetorical strategies deployed by all three leaders, each presentation will engage participants to consider how these Black women activists struggled against the obstacles of racism and sexism by deploying unconventional styles of communication in order to build a progressive body politic.
