Abstract

This roundtable discussion will focus on the theoretical understanding of the basic communication course and will consider the following questions:

• How do communication scholars/practitioners theoretically engage the basic communication course?
• What frameworks emerge from the theoretical engagement of the basic communication course?
• How do instructors communicate the theoretical grounding to students?

By disclosing the theoretical groundwork of the basic communication course, foundational starting points emerge that guide ongoing research and development of the course.
