Verbal Foreplay: The Conversation Analysis of a Pick-up Artist’s Compliance Gaining Game

Abstract

The ordinariness of flirtatious interactions are complicated if one of the participants is a Pick Up Artist (PUA). Not only is it an unfair advantage for the PUA, many of the techniques utilized are deceptive. Using Conversation Analysis as the methodological vehicle, real -time recorded conversations instigated by a self-proclaimed Pick Up Artist (PUA) are investigated. Analysis found a stepwise progression that can lead to an early breach of normal protocol during initial cross-sex interactions.
