The purpose of this paper is to introduce the results of a longitudinal survey of Harlem in New York, from which it aims to build psychological “bridges” between African-Americans and Japanese people. Harlem has long been stereotypically stigmatized as a dangerous slum. In order to investigate the truthfulness of the negative information about Harlem, the researcher set up and carried out a longitudinal research project in the community, which is now ten years old.
