5. Bridging the Listening Gap with Skeletal Notes

Sun, November 14, 2:00 to 3:15pm, Hilton San Francisco, Floor: Ballroom Level, Continental 5

Abstract

Freshman remember only 11% of lectures. Better note taking increases this to 75%. Skeletal notes are an effective means of taking notes. They give basic outlines, with students filling in key information. In this activity, students listen to a song and write down as many lyrics as possible. Next, they are given skeletal notes and asked to provide key lyric information. Next, students are introduced to skeletal notes as a way of taking notes.
