We live at a time of significant change in how we receive the news. Journalism programs need to adapt to new media for communication. The challenges are many for journalism professors. This paper discusses how an advanced journalism class learned to become citizen journalists by entering into an alliance with the New York Times. Students report from local civic meetings and gathering and build portfolios by publishing news accounts on the New York Times blog. Issues are discussed and ways in which we can bridge new media with traditional journalistic teaching and theory.
