Abstract

This essay argues that Burke’s theory of identification, as an essential part of persuasion, is relevant to mass communication, though few scholars have attempted to apply this theory to mass communication phenomena. This essay suggests that there is a need for future research in this area and discusses the possible benefits of such research.
