The effect of mediated beauty images on females is not a new research topic. This concept, which can serve to oppress women, remains an important topic in American culture. Researchers have found that media images which communicate and reinforce the traditional beauty standard had an effect on audiences. The following analysis fills a gap by examining the influence of discussion and nontraditional framing of beauty in the sitcom Ugly Betty on females’ perceptions of beauty.
