Cultural Diversity Training to Build Bridges in the Age of Globalization

Wed, November 17, 11:00am to 12:15pm, Hilton San Francisco, Floor: Sixth Floor, Tower 3, Sutter B

Session Submission Type: Paper Session

Abstract

As organizations are becoming increasingly more diverse not only in terms of race and ethnicity, but also in terms of language, sexual orientation, religion, education, etc. we need to address the issue of how people are able to cooperate with each other in order to achieve their organizational goals. The focus of this panel is on cultural diversity training, and more specifically how does globalization affect the connections that diverse people make. The role of Training & Development is examined in promoting these connections among trainees during and beyond the training. More specifically, this panel discusses what interferes with the development of cross-cultural connections and what is needed for the establishment of such connections. It also offers specific training programs that build bridges among diverse individuals. Participants will be able to discuss the issue of diversity training with the presenters.
