Little research examines the experiences and perceptions of victim advocates, especially those who work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This study uses in-depth interviews with advocates to explore the relationship between the “love” of the work, positive stereotyping, and the role of occupational stigma within worker’s daily lives. Interviews reveal how advocates navigate as well as challenge stigma and exploitation associated with working for anti-violence agencies through a number of discursive and emotional management strategies.
