Session Submission Type: Roundtable
While public attention ebbs and flows, Black women’s health continues to be a site of struggle and Black feminist-womanist praxis. Beyond viral hashtags (e.g. #SoftLife) lie diverse coalitions who persist toward the goal of improving Black women’s material lives. This roundtable considers challenges to Black women’s health across the life course, and community-based interventions. Participants will draw on research and experiential knowledge to discuss the following sub-topics: media (in)attention focused on Black women’s health, Black maternal health, mental health for Black women outside of large cities, and caregiving experiences and supports for Black women.
