Feminist Authors Showcase: Decolonial Medicine, Embodied Spirituality, and Remembering Queer Xicana Indígena Ancestries

Fri, Oct 27, 9:30 to 10:45am, Hilton, Floor: 2nd Floor, Key Ballroom 9

Session Submission Type: Panel

Abstract

This Author Roundtable will contribute to the subtheme, “Revisiting, Reclaiming & Re-imagining: Past, Present, Future.” In critical resistance to the necropolitical economies of genocide, detribalization, land theft, nation-state borders, and the coloniality of gender, queer Xicana theories in the flesh insist on reimagining life by pairing a conceptualization of mindbodyspirit with a decolonial politics of remembering ancestral ways of being. Given this feminist framework for imagining and living otherwise, this author roundtable will historicize the nonsecular reading practices of Xicana/x feminisms by placing three recent publications in dialogue: Christina Garcia Lopez’s Calling the Soul Back: Embodied Spirituality in Chicanx Narrative (2019) [ISBN: 0816537755], Amanda Ellis’s Letras y Limpias: Decolonial Medicine and Holistic Healing in Mexican American Literature (2021) [ISBN: 0816542686], and Susy Zepeda’s Queering Mesoamerican Diasporas: Remembering Xicana Indígena Ancestries (2022) [ISBN: ‎ 0252086600].
