Abstract

The purpose of the Chicago Oral History Roundtable is to provide an opportunity for historians and scholars of oral history to come together to discuss current trends in scholarship. Our format includes "roundtable" discussions of books or articles of thematic and methodological interest to the group; trends in digitization and information technology/history; methodology; biography; legal issues, etc. Additionally we will play a long lost recording of of the Third Colloquium on Oral History, unearthed by archivist Al Stein at Chicago State University in 2009.

COHR has partnered over the years with the Chicago History Museum, Chicago State University, Columbia College Chicago, and Hyde Park Historical Society. COHR also has given international oral historians the stage, such as Michael Dudding from New Zeland, who also presented at OHA in Kentucky. Dudding presented upon the experiences of recent oral history-based research, and described how knowledge of the cognitive processes of remembering can inform the interpretation of oral history testimonies.
