Description

The EnCoMPASS research project seeks to cultivate an online community of mathematics educators. The purpose of this smaller study is to use social network analysis to enhance community cultivation efforts and to begin to document emergence of an online community of practice. Results identify prominent participants in the network that, through additional professional development opportunities, may be effective in fostering teacher learning of enhanced instructional strategies through interpersonal connections. In addition, community structure has emerged and it is suggested that supporting interactions between groups of core and peripheral participants will improve informational flow in the network.
