This paper builds on the cannon of literature on the concept of slope to introduce a framework for describing conceptions of slope. Simultaneously considering how slope is viewed and how it is used, this framework brings together ideas from APOS theory and semiotic theories with research on covariational reasoning and slope conceptualizations to describe how students may develop an understanding of slope.
