Fostering Cultural Relevance in Secondary Mathematics Methods Courses

Mon, October 27, 8:00 to 9:15am, Penn Stater Conference Center, Floor: Second Level, 204

Description

Supporting teachers to adapt curriculum materials to be more culturally relevant has long been explored in the research. However, an unexplored aspect of the research is how mathematics teacher educators adapt their curriculum materials to respond to the needs of prospective teachers (PTs) to enact culturally relevant pedagogy. In this paper, we use comparative case study to explore two cases of mathematics teacher educators’ adaptations to support prospective teachers' understanding of creating culturally relevant tasks.
