Session Submission Type: Roundtable
Chicago is renowned for its world-class collections of rare books, works on paper, music, maps, paintings, sculptures, and arms and armor from the early modern period. In this roundtable session, curators, librarians, and resident scholars from four signal institutions—the Newberry Library, the Art Institute of Chicago, and special collections libraries at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago—will examine the development of their Renaissance collections and the history of their conservation, exhibition, and display. Participants will each briefly introduce highlights from their museum or library and then engage with each other in a discussion of the complex role of Renaissance materials in the Second City.
