Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable will bring together editors and scholars at different career stages to discuss what kinds of books academics in Renaissance and early modern studies might publish over the course of their careers and what kinds of audiences they might hope to reach. The possibilities for second (and further) books are often wider than those for first books. For later books the scope might include writing for audiences beyond one's narrow sub-specialty (or even broad period-field), writing on topics that are more conceptually driven rather than text/object driven, and writing the kinds of academic books that take on topics of concern to wider audiences even as they remain academic titles. The panel will also explore new forms and venues of publication: collaborative work, born digital books, hybrid and mixed media publication, as well as genres of the traditional monograph. Scholars of all career stages are invited to attend.
