Session Type: Paper Session
The four papers in this symposium use innovative measurement and analysis techniques to capture interpersonal dynamics in parent-infant dyads, classrooms, and in everyday activities across the world. Paper 1 shows how parents and infants coordinate their play interactions, based on video processing algorithms that automatically extract movement dynamics. Paper 2 characterizes affect feedback loops between low-income mothers and infants surrounding a social stressor. Paper 3 shows what 'thriving' looks like across twelve cultures, using daylong video recordings to capture emerging skills in the context of everyday activities throughout the human lifespan. Paper 4 presents discoveries about relations between teacher and student executive function, based on multiple measures observed in classrooms in order to have a systems understanding of the factors at play in this rich environment.
Together, these papers highlight how recent observational measurement and analysis techniques reveal the rich structure available across multiple domains throughout development.
