Session Type: Paper Session
Parents play a unique role as facilitators of children's and adolescents' prosocial behavior. In this session, three papers provide novel findings regarding the dynamic and interactive relationship between parents and their children regarding the onset and development of prosociality. In the first paper, a mixed-methods approach was used to investigate parents' reactions to children's spontaneous prosocial behavior. In the second paper, adolescents reported on their parents' prosociality; significant relations were found for adolescents’ own behavior. In the third paper, developmental changes in children's prosociality were investigated using an underrepresented sample (Turkish children). The studies reflect new avenues for research on the role of parents in children's moral development.
