This symposium presents three innovative strategies--an SEL curriculum, emotional coaching, and mindfulness and compassion training--for promoting social and emotional learning skills among preschoolers attending Head Start programs. Each presentation will describe the strategy and present results from studies testing the impacts of the strategy on promoting positive SEL outcomes for young children. The fourth presentation summarizes the content of numerous SEL programs, and highlights the wide variation in skill focus, teaching strategies, and implementation supports across different SEL strategies.
