Integrative Statement

Biography:
Henry Wellman was born in Hickory, North Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College, was a kindergarten and preschool teacher for a few years and received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota where his advisor was John Flavell. Wellman has been at the University of Michigan for more almost 40 years where he is currently the Harold. W. Stevenson Collegiate Professor of Psychology. For many years his research has focused on children's developing knowledge of persons, also called "the child's theory of mind.” He’s currently writing a popular book, Reading Minds: How Childhood Teaches us to Understand People. He lives in Ann Arbor Michigan with his wife Karen Lind, and has two sons Ned and Daniel. As well as two grandchildren, a grandson (age 4 ½) and a granddaughter (age 2 ½).
