In this session, the roles of the gender socialization within the family, stereotypes, peers, and media are considered in youth’s gender development. A range of outcomes are highlighted, including youth’s gender-related behaviors, preferences, and attitudes, as well as occupational interests. Special attention is given to differences between boys and girls and to the differential roles of mothers and fathers.
