Session Type: Flash Talk Session
The COVID-19 pandemic brought on a series of challenges and disruptions in children's learning and pushed for solutions to be implemented through the difficult circumstances of lockdowns and social distancing restrictions. Solutions included enforcing a remote learning modality through the use of digital technology and creating a 'COVID-safe' classroom environment through social distancing and mask-wearing. However, the extent to which resources were available to accommodate these challenges varied across nations and socioeconomic groups, leading to a widening of inequities in access. Furthermore, the way these adjustments in children's learning environments have impacted their learning processes has strong implications and importance for their future education and life trajectory. Thus, this session will unpack the impact of the pandemic on different aspects of learning in early childhood. It will include looking at the impact of the pandemic on socioemotional adjustment and school readiness and mothers' perspectives of how children's learning was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
