Session Type: Paper Symposium
Children’s time spent with media is a variable that has been associated with both positive and negative outcomes. Today, media is mobile, interactive, and used to gratify immediate needs, making it increasingly difficult to adequately measure. This symposium presents four novel methodologies (diaries, sensing, LENA, video) to measure children’s media use. The goal of developing these measurement methodologies is to take into account the contextual factors of media use and improve upon the limitations of more traditional self-report measures. Together these papers speak to the need for converging methodologies to enhance the accuracy of media use measurement.
