Stochastic Choreography

Thu, September 5, 4:30 to 6:00pm, Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, Floor: Four, Bayside A

Abstract

Stochastic choreography allows us to correlate dance and mathematics in one practice. In this case, stochastic mathematics is applied in dance. This paper introduces the notion of stochastic choreography and distinguishes two its major types, accompanied by pertinent examples. Stochastic choreography might be created and/or presented with the use of technology that interests the author peculiarly. How might the gesture and the movement be communicated in interaction with technology? How does the use of everyday life technology affect our moves? Dance is temporal and what can happen when we add an interaction with technology that presents immediate feedback on the dance (in case of stochastically presented choreography). The paper is based on the author and other choreographers’ dance performances which might be considered as instances of stochastic choreography.
