Dear Science Fiction: Reflections on a futuristic Black Scholartistry and Critical Arts Based Research

Sat, October 9, 5:00 to 6:30pm EDT (5:00 to 6:30pm EDT), 4S 2021 Virtual, 15

Abstract

How many times do you get a playlist out of an academic book? Using themes of interdisciplinary disobedience, Black methodology as power, and process over product. Dr McKittrock provides a theoretical toolbox for interrupting colonial and settler colonial power through creative methodologies. For this panel I will riff off the themes presented in this book to reflect on Critical Autoethnography, Black Science Fiction, ScholARTistry (Cahnman, 2006) and the false neutrality of using “Art” as a stand-in for white cultural expression. A closed loop is impermeable; Dr McKitttrock’s book provides the incentive for breaking through the cellular membrane.
