On Kandice Chuh's The Difference Aesthetics Makes

Tue, October 12, 12:00 to 1:45pm, (Eastern Standard Time), Virtual 6

Session Submission Type: Non-Paper Session: Dialogue Format

Abstract

This roundtable will feature insightful comments on Kandice Chuh's 2019 monograph, The Difference Aesthetics Makes: On the 'Humanities' After Man (Duke University Press). In its attempt "to amplify, by routing through aesthetics, the presence and potential of alternatives to liberal humanist onto-epistemologies that give rise to the narrow definition of the human around which the modern condition is organized," the book offers several methods of thinking about and through this year's theme on "creativity in revolt." The panelists will be: Roderick Ferguson (Yale University), Lisa Lowe (Yale University), Jodi Melamed (Marquette University) and Siobhan Somerville (University of Illinois- Urbana-Champaign). Kandice Chuh will offer a response.
