Works in Progress: Job and Grant Application Materials Workshop (Sponsored by Graduate Education Committee)

Fri, October 23, 8:30 to 10:00am, Palmer House, Floor: 3, Wabash 1

Session Submission Type: Professional Development Workshop

Abstract

Bring your work in progress and get focused feedback on the materials that matter for your next professional step. Designed for graduate students and early-career scholars, this hands-on workshop will support participants preparing applications for academic and non-academic jobs, as well as grants, fellowships, and other professional opportunities. Participants are invited to bring draft materials such as CVs and résumés, cover letters, teaching or research statements, and project narratives for grant and fellowship applications. Drafts will be shared in advance with members of the Graduate Education Committee, who will use them to identify common questions, challenges, and opportunities across participants’ materials. The workshop will begin with a group conversation offering collective feedback and practical guidance based on these shared themes. Participants will also have the opportunity for individualized feedback on their own materials, allowing them to dig more deeply into their particular goals, questions, and application contexts. The workshop is intended not only to strengthen specific application materials, but also to create space for candid conversation, informal exchange, and intergenerational connections among ASA members at different career stages. Advance registration and submission of draft materials will be required. Space is limited.
